Matloob Ahmed Warraich was born to a farming family belonging to the town of Mitranwali near Tehsil Daska of Sialkot, Punjab. Warraich attended college in Daska, after which he moved to Switzerland where he acquired a degree in Hotel Management. Politics has been of paramount importance to Warraich since his youth – his favourite flair. His first rodeo in the world of practical politics was as the Nazim of the Islami Jamiat Tulba (IJT). He later contested the election of his college union from this platform and was elected President. Following this he joined the Peoples’ Student Federation (PSF) as the divisional coordinator.
During his time in Switzerland, he served as a special agent at the IIS antinarcotics department. He maintained a life in Switzerland and Pakistan simultaneously, all the while courageously opposing and condemning dictatorship in Pakistan. During his long exile from Pakistan, he operated as President of Pakistan Peoples Party, Switzerland and President of PPP European Affairs.
After the death of General Zia-ul-Haq, he returned to Pakistan and reactivated his political career. Warraich also served time behind bars due to his support of former Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Late Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto in their legal battles. During this time, he faced many hardships but still managed to stand up to the cruelty of the ruling authorities at the time.
In the year 2000, PPP Chairperson Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto honoured him by appointing him as member of the PPP Federal Council. Warraich has played an essential role in unifying the scattered political forces of Pakistani community around the globe. He was also appointed incharge of the ARD’s International Affairs by the Late Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan. In recent years, following the Model Town massacre, Warraich acted as a Political Secretary to Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri (President of PAT and Minhaj ul Quran).
He has been living his passions of politics and literary work by simultaneously authoring a number of books. He is the author of Sadiyon Ka Beta, Jala Watan Leader, Afkaar-e-Sehr, Soharwardi Se Wardi Tak, Hiqayaat-e-Roomi, Edison, Grand Agenda Aur Pakistan, Pakistan Aur Uski Kamyaab Kharja Policy, Mashriq Aur Maghrib Ka Melaap, The Great Three, Twenty Dictators of 20th Century, Jeenay Ka Fun, Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Kay Akhri 72 Din, Taliban Aur Aalmi Aman, TALIBAN – The Global Threat.
A few of his books are also currently under process as he continues to fight for the cause of democracy in Pakistan. He is also the Chief Editor of Daily Urdu Newspaper “Peoples’” and writes bi-weekly columns for “Nawa-e-Waqt” newspaper on a myriad of national socio-political issues and current affairs. Currently, he is the founding Chairman of the first Punjab-based political party – Punjab National Party of Pakistan. He is also working as a political and military analyst as well as a lobbyist, and columnist.
